Specialising in the production of dance music, related audio and midi recordings and distribution to the public, Borgatti Edizioni Musicali was set up in 1954 by the accordion-player Paolino Borgatti who started out by concentrating mainly on dance music and specialising in creating tunes for the accordion.

The 1970s saw a boom in “ballo liscio” or ballroom music (waltzes, polkas and mazurkas), known in Bologna as “filuzzi”, the latter providing the first success: “La Mazurka dell’Uccellino”. A revolutionary tune for its time, it was composed by Gino Bergamini and launched by the Dino Lucchi quartet.

Towards the end of the 1970s the search for new artists and relevant production began. Many of these were to remain unknown; others such as Vasco Rossi were later to become hugely famous. The first single, containing “Jenny” and “Silvia”, by Vasco Rossi was produced and issued.

In later years the firm continued with dance tunes and other projects. These included, in 1982, production of a single by the Daniel Sentacruz Ensemble with the items “Per Una Volta Ancora Insieme” and “Voglio Stare Con Te”.

In 1983 the first production of dance music was begun, with the famous DJ Enzo Persuader, already responsible for successful remixes. In 1985 “I Can Feel It” by the group Rex-Abe reached the top of the German and French dance music charts.

As from 1986 large dance orchestras were also handled such as Franco Bergamini, Cherubino, Gli Zeta and others, with distribution by the then RCA Italiana. The main line-ups produced also appeared in the important showcase of the major Italian event Festival delle Orchestre di Trento, broadcast on the RaiUno TV channel.

Jazz – In 1989 the album “Nel Cuore Della Musica” by the great clarinettist Henghel Gualdi, was produced, now remastered and issued on CD.

In the same year the album “Quartet in New York” was reissued, the work of the pianist Marco Di Marco and saxophonist Dave Tofani.

Pop – In 1992 the company was one of the publishers of “Banane e Lampone”, the work of the partnership between Franz Campi and Maurizio Minardi and a success for Gianni Morandi.

In 1993 the firm started to produce Franz Campi, selected for the Sanremo Giovani contest and taking part in February 1994 with the song “Ma Che Sarei”.

In 1994, at the second Sanremo Giovani content, the firm presented Maurizio Minardi and in time the following were also produced: Enrico Lisei, already a successful composer, and the group Rolls Dolls, part of the opening act of the Vasco Rossi tour in 1996.

In the meantime dance efforts continued and in 1997 in the TV contest for orchestras broadcast on RETE 4, “Ballo Amore e Fantasia”, the Mario Riccardi orchestra presented “Rosso di Sera” which reached fourth place and became an immediate hit in all Italian ballrooms.

Although continuing with the specialist production of folk and ballroom music, ambient and jazz genres were also included with the production in 2003 of the single S.O.S. by Paola Silvestri, a promising Swiss teenager of Italian origin, whose debut album is currently in production.
